What to Expect In A Therapy Session

If you are new to therapy you may be wondering to expect the first time you go to therapy. In most cases, a session is 50 minutes in length. During our first session, we discuss personal history and treatment goals. Despite misconceptions, a psychologist will not tell you what to do or give you all the answers. Instead, therapy will provide you with tools to help you on your journey. It is a trusting relationship where you can be honest without judgement. Together we will work on understanding issues, stressors, and finding healthy coping strategies. Therapy can also involve unearthing events or traumas your brain and heart have worked to bury but you can no longer ignore. My goal is to provide guidance and support as you find clarity. The therapeutic relationship can be an important part of the healing process. I respect each person's experience without judgement.
